B E A U T Y | Long Unicorn Hair… Don’t Care

So here it is you guys!! The Unicorn Hair!! Well, that’s what I am calling it anyways. I am so excited about this hair. I am loving having long hair, and giving my own hair a break for a bit. Having these braids is a protective style, meaning, I am not messing with my actual hair everyday. This gives my hair a break, allowing it to grow, and not break from manipulation.

Having these ombre purple to pink hair I think makes it even more fun. I can’t wait to play with it and see what cool looks I can create going into the fall season. I purchased the colorful hair from the UK brand Catface Hair. They have so many different options, and am thinking of trying the grey hair next time.

I N S P I R A T I O N | August

Not much has been that inspiring for me in August. My Career goals, which I will talk about in another post soon, are always my first Inspiration. But outside of careers, there have only been a few inspirational things.

  • PILATES – My mom is starting to get into shape, and she wanted me to do pilates with her. I have actually enjoyed this so that I can get in a full body workouts once a week. In addition, I am able to stretch more, which is something that I struggle with

  • COLORFUL BRAIDS- It’s been about a year since I last had braids in, and when I’ve had them in the past, they have always been natural hair colors. This time though, I got some ombre hair so it should be some fun. (Will have a post soon)

F I T N E S S | New Goals…Mixing it UP

As half the year has gone by since I have made my fitness goals for myself. I can’t say that I have reached them…but  I can definitely say I have re-evaluated what my goals are going to be for the rest of the year.

I have stopped doing Cross fit at the moment. It wasn’t because I didn’t enjoy it, but rather it was becoming out of my budget since I moved out on my own. I’m not that sad about it, only thing that I really miss is the push that I got from others through the team dynamic as well as being able to work on powerlifting and Olympic Lifting moves. I think that once I can afford it again, I most likely will get back into it as a sport to train for.

But for now, I have re-evaluated some of my goals as well as added some new ones.

Squat- hit a 1 rep max of 150 lbs

You think I would be close to this by now. But, given that over the past couple of months, my fitness journey has taken some unexpected pauses, I have not been able to work on this goal as much as I would like to. I’m not worried though, I know this is something that I can accomplish within 5 months

Be able to complete 1 un-assisted pull up

I still would like to know that if I was in a situation where I need my upper body to save my life I could do it.

Be able to do 30 “Big Boy’ pushups with out pause

I probably should be able to do more by the end of the year if I work on this everyday, but I think 30 is a great number to start with. Leaving the “Girl” push-ups for the weak

Get a 10 min. mile

As much as strength is most important for me, I do think that having stamina and speed is very important, especially for the heart health.

Gain a lot of my flexibility back

I use to be very flexible as a kid, think Cirque du soleil flexible. I know I can’t get that flexible again, but it would be nice to get closer to it

Compete in a Spartan Sprint Race Potentially

I have thought about it for a bit. I think Obstacle courses are fun and I think that by working my fitness journey/fitness goals towards one race that will need all of it, I can really create some great strides.

To Diet or Not To Diet…That is The Question

As I have really started my fitness journey and tried to be more active and healthy (for the most part) in the past year, dieting has actually been the hardest thing for me. Going to the gym, I LOVE it. I get to release all my stress from the day, catch up on Youtube videos if I am doing cardio, and just feel like one of the boys in a Testosterone filled weight room. But when it comes to my diet, it just never really sticks.

Don’t get me wrong, my nutrition/diet has gotten much better since I have started/left college. I use to be okay with ordering Dominos pizza every night and eating a Medium Pizza by myself. Now, I try to eat healthy 75% of the time if I can and portion things correctly. So what has helped me get to this point? Well a lot of trial and error.

I first tried going on a meal plan. I have done these in the past, but these never really stick after week 2. I think it becomes too expensive for my budget, and gets frankly boring for me and is just too much meal prepping. I then tried the “If It Fits Your Macros” approach. (IIFYM). Now I have to say that this was great for a little bit. It allowed me to fully understand what I was eating and what I should be avoiding. But for a long term solution, this really wasn’t good for me either. It actually gave me a negative response to food. I stopped enjoying food, but rather thought of it as a chore and frankly and a stressful one at that. Calculating what I could and couldn’t eat in a day just wasn’t fun and would cause me to under eat, which isn’t a good thing either.

I then started to learn about Intuitive eating. Now, I can’t say that a year ago this would have been a good idea for me. I think I needed those meal plans and macro counting for me to get to a point where I start to listen to my body. I know that I need to have a lot of protein in my diet. Not only is it good for my muscles to grow, but also it helps with leaning out, which is what I am currently working on. But I also learned that I need Carbs. my body really needs carbs, no it doesn’t need a whole pizza worth of it, but it definitely can’t be as depleted as it was getting from my other nutrition methods.

So, what I really wanted to get out of this post was that, not every diet is really a diet. In addition, a diet can’t last for ever, a new nutrition eating habit outlook can though. For me, listening to what my body wants and creating a positive image of food is most important to me. But I don’t think I could get to where I am today without those bumps in the road.

What are some eating plans/ diets that you have tired? What worked for you? I would love to know/learn.

June Inspirations

Oh how I have missed these posts. I really am trying to get back into the things I love, one of them being Blogging. So to start of the month on a great note, thought I would share some thing that I have found to inspire me so far.

Question of the week: What is one thing that has been inspiring you this month?

I am starting/ restarting my Youtube Channel. I am really excited/nervous about this. You think I would just focus on this blog that I have neglected so much in the past, but Youtube has always been something I wanted to do, but never really felt ready for it.  Check out in July for my launch 🙂

It’s Okay If I’m Not Always Good

So I have tried to amp up my fitness journey in the past two weeks. And I will have to say that I am seeing results. My strength is improving and I think that cardio wise, my stamina is getting better. One thing I wanted to talk about though is that you don’t have to treat your fitness journey as if you are a Bodybuilder on prep. I have noticed that since I watch a lot of fitness influencers who are Bikini Competitors on Youtube, I sometimes compare my journey to their prep. But I need to realize that I am not on prep. Its slightly fun to treat my fitness journey as that, but I don’t have to be stage lean, nor do I want to.

I can go out with friends and drink and have a meal that is not healthy, because that won’t set me back. This is so because I am 75% of the time eating healthy, and I work out about 4-5 days a week. I am more focused on building strength and then leaning out a bit just so that I can see the progress that I am making in the gym with weight training.

My Thoughts on My Fitness Journey

I would have to say that it has been officially 1 year  since I have stared down a healthier more fitness focused life. I have to say that by starting this fitness journey, I have learned more about my body than I have ever had in the 23 years I have been alive. I have learned to a greater extent how far I can push my body or not, in addition to how my mental health/ and sleep are effected by me exercising or not.

My Goals and Achievements.

As I have started my fitness journey, I would have to say that I have not achieved the goals that I had ultimately wanted to achieve 10 months ago. I don’t think this is a bad thing though. Given that last year around this time I was in school, where my schedule wasn’t as fixed as it is now with a full time job, it has been a juggling act. I have to find the balance and time to fit fitness into my schedule no matter what.

My goals haven’t necessarily changed over this past year, but I think the method at which I wanted to achieve them have. I can’t lie, I use to be a cardio bunny. I was truly intimidated by the free weight room and never took foot in there. Now, I have no shame in there. I hold my place because I now know that no one really knows what they’re doing. What are my goals you ask? That is to become the strongest/leanest person I can be. I never what to compromise my strength for being lean. But I think, by learning how to manipulate my body in a healthy way is a great way for me to know myself more.

I have put myself on a timeline as of now. It is set for the beginning of June to achieve my goals of leaning out a bit, but I think I might extend that, not because I will fail, but rather because I want to see what I can truly achieve with my physique. By extending this timeline, to mid-June, I can then work more on getting nutrition back on track, in addition, to getting more cardio in.

So here is  photo of where I pretty much am at the moment. I posted this photo on my Instagram @akjack, because I want to make this a public journey. I want to not only keep record of my progress, but also to hopefully help others in the progress if I can. Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 11.21.40 AM

New Year Resolution

Hello Everyone,

I have come back to you with my New Year Resolutions.  What I like to do is create vision boards rather than resolutions. By creating a vision board, I am always reminded of what my goals and dreams are for the year and I can remember to work on them everyday. Vision Board16

Here is the vision board that I have created for myself and I will break it down for you. Each image is either a goal  a vision that I see for myself. It doesn’t necessarily mean that I am going to complete all of these in this year, but at least I know what I am working for.

  1. Tattoo– I would really like to get 1-2 tattoos this year. I did have this on my vision board last year and had the full intention of getting one, but when I started to look at what my long term goals were, I realized that financially it wasn’t going to be a good idea.
  2. All natural hair– For the past year, I have been slowly transitioning to natural hair. I realized that I missed the volume that I could achieve and the more options I had with my natural hair when I was younger. So, for this year, I am planning on trying to get rid of all relaxed/damaged hair as well as creating some real shape to my hair.
  3. Finances– In regards to my finances, I do like to spend, but I would rather have cash in my accounts and feel stable for rainy days. This is why I would like to save more this year and create a goal of $6,000 to be in my accounts by the end of the year.
  4. Health/fitness– I will be doing a more extensive post about my fitness/health goals, but my most basic goals for this year is to be a better runner, running around 2-3 miles per session. In addition, I want to reduce my body fat down, toning up over all. Also I want to become a stronger person and be able to squat 100 lbs in a 10 rep set. Lastly, I would like to be able to do an un-assisted pull up by March.
  5. New York– This was and idea that I thought about a lot last year for a few months. I have always wanted to live in NYC and have never really accomplished this goal. So, I am going to be saving up and hopefully move  back to the Big Apple by the end of the summer.
  6. Move Out- Living with my parents has actually been great. But, as I have grown up and matured in the past few months, I realize that I need to make the next step into moving out on my own.  In doing this I become fully responsible for my finances and actions, and I take the full step into adulthood.
  7. Adele by Adele Jackson– So I have been working on my own brand/company. But I  haven’t spent as much effort as I could have this past year. So, I would like to get to the point with my brand that it is more of a part-time job, rather than a hobby. I would also like to start a transition to working for myself and freelancing for other companies on the side.

What are some of your goals/resolutions for 2016? Leave a comment below.

January Insipration

Hello everyone,

Getting back into blogging, I thought I would start off with a January Inspiration post.  These are a few things that I believe are going to lead this 2016 year in a great direction.

Knitting Machine- This was my Christmas present this year and I am super excited about this. If you don’t know, I really love to knit and this will bring my love of knitting to the next level.

The Gym- For the last 6-7 months, I have been going to the gym more on my own then I have ever in my 4 years of college and 4 years of high school. I am very proud of myself for this accomplishment, but for the new year, I am amping up my gym and health game. I will be doing a separate post about this topic in the near future so look out for that.

Nike Air Max Thea- I had bought myself some new sneakers, given that my old adidas where getting dirty. I went for the black pair because I feel that these wont get as dirty.  They are also very comfortable and make me believe I can walk for miles.

August Inspirations

So the Inspirations for this week are slim, but I think thats because I am just still inspired by what I have posted in the past months. As you may know from my last post, I received a new car from my parents. I am very gracious of them for doing this for me because I wasn’t expecting it all. I know want to be able to use this car to its full advantages, going on small trips, doing new things, allowing me to work the gym back into my daily schedule. I am really excited for all the adventures I will have with this car.

In regards to my wardrobe, I am slowly developing something that is what I really want, a clean almost uniform type of style. In a weird way I miss my uniform elementary/high school days. I never had to worry about what to wear and everything always went together. So I will be buying nicer pieces that will work within the wardrobe I want and have as well as things that will last.

If you didn’t see my July vlog, I showed my new short braids. I am loving how less stressful they are. I think its easier to exercise with and they dry much faster. I also like how 90’s they make me feel.
